At Juneteenth of New Bern, we recognize the importance of passing down the rich history and cultural significance of Juneteenth to future generations. By creating a youth division, we aim to inspire young people to actively engage with the living history of Juneteenth, fostering a deep appreciation for the struggles, resilience, and triumphs that this celebration represents. This division will provide opportunities for youth to learn, connect, and contribute through hands-on experiences, storytelling, and participation in community events. By involving youth in the preservation and celebration of this pivotal moment in American history, we can empower them to take pride in their heritage while understanding the ongoing fight for equality and justice.
Our goals for engaging the youth include hosting educational workshops and creative arts programs that highlight the cultural, historical, and social significance of Juneteenth. We plan to involve youth in the planning and execution of the annual Juneteenth celebration, offering leadership opportunities that build skills and foster community involvement. Through initiatives like essay contests, historical reenactments, and partnerships with local schools and organizations, we aim to make the history of Juneteenth both accessible and meaningful. By creating a space for young voices and ideas, we can ensure that the legacy of Juneteenth remains vibrant and relevant for generations to come.
